Leicester’s own superstar Mark Morrison joins forces with the local business community to support Hope Against Cancer with the ultimate Christmas single.
Leicestershire charity Hope Against Cancer is getting a festive boost to their fundraising in what are unprecedently difficult times for local charities thanks to BHIB Insurance Brokers and local R&B legend Mark Morrison – who have written, produced and recorded a Christmas single for the charity.
The musical collaboration features the talents of 10 local businesses coming together on a Christmas single titled ‘It’s Christmas (Santa’s on his way)’ which was released on 2nd December.
With the involvement of the original songwriters Martin Stack, Mark Gamble and local R&B superstar Mark Morrison, the single has certainly had an injection of celebrity sparkle. In fact, Mark Morrison perhaps best known for his international hit ‘Return of the Mack’ – even generously produced the single at his own Leicester studio.
BHIB colleagues Tommy Reid and Sam Halden persuaded fellow members of their business networking group to warm up their vocal chords and feature on the heart-warming Christmas song. Joining them, are: Byron Dixon, OBE of Microfresh Limited, Pete Simpson of MME Limited, Gurbinder Singh of BGS Accountants, Gavin Dilkes of Synergy Personnel Limited, Jo Peters of JSP Virtual Limited, Satwinder Sidhu of Paradigm Wills Limited, Steph Beeston-Clarke – of Beeston-Clarke Management Solutions, Tracey Hallam of Hope Against Cancer and Martin Stack of DJ Skillmaster.
Tommy has long been a supporter of Hope and personally appreciates the value of the work they do, and has said:
“I really wanted to do this for Hope Against Cancer. Due to excellent research and improving treatments my mum thankfully beat cancer, so it is due to them that I have her here today. However, I know that a lot of people are not as lucky, so I want to try and help fund this cutting-edge cancer research – and hopefully contribute to saving someone’s life! I had so much fun creating this charity single and it’s something I will certainly remember for years to come.”
It’s hoped that downloads and streams of the tack will allow Hope Against Cancer to raise a contribution towards the remaining £100,000 of their ‘Hope for Life’ campaign. The charity already fund cutting-edge research across Leicestershire and Rutland and this latest £1.5 million appeal will allow them to double the size of their local Clinical Trials Facility.
The single’s accompanying video was filmed on 7th December, but the song’s fund-raising reach won’t end there. Mark Morrison has already made plans to have the tune released every Christmas for the next five years with a new artist featuring every time, so this really is a gift that will just keep giving!
Hope Against Cancer’s CEO, Nigel Rose told us:
“I can hardly find the words to express how delighted we are with the song and how grateful we are to BHIB and their networking colleagues for getting this off the ground. And of course, Mark Morrison, who has catapulted the whole venture to another level completely!
This is just the latest illustration of how the Leicestershire business community comes together to support local charities like ours – and allows us to continue the ground-breaking work we fund. And, of course, it has highlighted just some of the truly talented people we have right here in our county!”
Whilst the song is ultimately a bit of fund-raising fun, it’s also very relevant. The lyrics are all about having hope at Christmas and this year that’s perhaps something we all need more than ever.
